To extend a timber framed listed building within the setting of a listed church located in the green belt. To persuade English Heritage and the Planning Authority against their general presumption that the building should only be extended in a linear form, which would not meet the clients requirements of forming a more welcoming entrance, additional ancillary accommodation and fulfil the current Disabled Discrimination Act requirement.

After much negotiation we developed a simple, well detailed glazed oak and stainless steel framed building allowing the existing building to be seen through the new extension.

From this project we were then instructed to update the front entrance and some of the internal aspects of the sanctuary providing a light welcoming space, removal of the pews provided seating maximising the space for the congregation, updated lighting

Through careful demolition of the poor quality ad hoc extension and sympathetically extending the building we were able to address the internal circulation and level issues. A new modern glazed entrance with step and ramp access was constructed linking to a much improved main hall both in terms of appearance and acoustic performance, all achieved on a fairly tight budget.

We are approved designers for the Compass Group, Select Service Partner (UK) Rail for the past 20 years originally appointed by The Travellers Fare Group. During this time we have been appointed to produce Construction design manuals to be used across their company.

We have successfully carried out retail fit out projects on many of the railway stations both within the ticket area and alongside platforms and fully understood the parameters upon us whilst working on such sites. These include Caffe Ritazza, Upper Crust, The Reef Bar, Delimento, Pasty Shop and Burger King.

Crowthorne C of E Primary School, Crowthorne

The challenge on a relatively small project to improve both the staff and teaching accommodation in various parts of school, in different phases whilst still maintaining a functioning school, keeping the staff and pupils safe.

In rationalising the internal circulation existing staff and teaching rooms could be modified to provide more modern teaching rooms, a staff area directly linked to the main school covered entrance area all of which to be completed in a very short time.

Whitgift School, Croydon

With the increased predicted pupil numbers and existing facilities at full capacity planning permission was achieved to sympathetically extend the catering facility. The large modern glazed pupil and staff dining room and adjoining highly serviced kitchen and ancillary accommodation rationalised the internal and external circulation and provided a more coherent link with the existing school building.

The conversion of the existing 1950’s school hall into a fully equipped theatre with new purpose built entrance emphasising the evening arrival to the theatre, setting it apart from the surrounding building. The balcony, retractable seating and orchestra pit provide a comfortable environment for the audience and allows the school to use the multi-functional space as required.

Master Plan

The detailed analysis of the school buildings and site located within an area of outstanding natural beauty and designated a ‘Major developed site’ within the Green Belt, together with an analysis of the schools future aims assisted in the development of the visionary strategic Masterplan.

School Extension

Planning permission has been achieved following extensive negotiations to convert the existing school hall to teaching accommodation and sympathetically construct a new pre-school hall.  The school requirement was identified as part of the Masterplan and when checked against DFFO Standards and future predicted pupil numbers.

Science Block

As part of the school Master Plan we identified the requirement for additional science teaching accommodation and the opportunity to provide the science department with a strong identity within a prominent part of the site. The carefully phased two storey modern building sympathetically linked to the existing school building allowed the college to use the existing laboratories without the need for temporary accommodation.

Through extensive negotiations with both the Planning Authority and developer a large two storey church building with substantial car parking provision was completed in a modern style encompassing the developer’s art and craft style and meeting client’s requirements.

We developed a very detailed brief with the church from which emerged a 1,000 seater modern town centre church building with ancillary accommodation.
